Ratio of use of marine ingredients in fish feeds known as “Fish In Fish Out” (FIFO)
The AAC recognizes difference between FIFO and FFDR and how it is used by different stakeholders in different situations. Having said that, with a finite supply of fishmeal and fish oil, further growth of the aquaculture feed production will automatically result in an even further reduction of the inclusion of marine resources in the diets.
The AAC believes it is more important to communicate to the media and the consumers the need for sustainable sourced marine ingredients for fish feed and that any other ingredient used in aquafeeds. These should be expected to be subjected to the same level of scrutiny applied to marine-source materials whilst also of stressing the need of reduction of FIFO within the EU aquaculture sector.

Labelling of Caviar
EU aquaculture is the world leader in sturgeon farming and caviar production. The current rules on caviar labelling are mainly related to compliance with the rules governing the movement and marketing of species and their products subject to CITES, the Convention on International Trade in Endangered Species of Wild Fauna and Flora (Reg. EC n. 338/1997).

Presence of Tetrodotoxin in shellfish
This joint advice presents the views of the Aquaculture Advisory Council and the Market Advisory Council on Tetrodotoxin (TTX), a potent neurotoxin that is found in the organs of a variety of marine species and some terrestrial species; it is responsible for the highest fatality rate of all marine intoxications.

Relevance of the availability of effective vaccines in aquaculture
Veterinary vaccines play a major role in protecting animal health by preventing and controlling serious epizootic diseases and by preventing animal-to-human transmission of infectious diseases. The availability of vaccines for farmed aquatic animals, as well as other veterinary medicinal products, is extremely low.

AAC view on Brexit
The Aquaculture Advisory Council values the contributions of its United Kingdom Members to the work of the Council and to the European Union aquaculture sector.
The AAC encourages that these Members, as well as other United Kingdom organisations can continue contributing as active observers[1] to the development of a sustainable aquaculture sector through a constructive and continuous dialogue in the future post-Brexit.
[1] AAC Rules of Procedure (Article 10-3): “The AAC shall not be responsible for meeting the costs of attendance of observers. Observers shall not be entitled to vote.”

Proposals of the Aquaculture Advisory Council on Delegated and Implementing Acts regarding the application of Reg. EU 429/2016 on Aquatic Animal
EU aquaculture production is extremely diverse as regards species and production systems, and this diversification is rapidly increasing. This may require, assured the premises to pursue an adequate state of welfare and health for the animals, more attention to: simplification, flexibility, risk analysis and assessment of cost benefits of the measures implemented.
The recommendations below result from the synthesis of works from Fish Working Group and Shellfish Working Group of AAC.
